Family Stories Need to be Heard

Most extended families have at least one "elder" who deserves an audio biography, meaning a 100% sound product -- and Frank Gregorsky has been producing these since 2002. Not only are finely edited conversational histories more lively than memoirs and scrapbooks, but you won't have to pester your favorite parent, uncle, sibling or grandmother to do any writing...

Family interviewer Gregorsky can put anyone at ease with a microphone. Most people love to talk, and Frank excels at listening -- followed by editing. The idea is to preserve the conversational feel, but organize the topics, and give them titles. The result is a package of easy-to-navigate audiodiscs (or dot-wma and iTunes files, if you prefer) that go beyond text and photos...

I kept thinking, as I was listening to these [discs]: "This is like listening to a book on tape." I was fully focused and concentrated and interested -- and was sad when I had to put it down to go do something. "Oh, I want to keep listening..." I could ask my family anytime I wanted to about [parts of our history] but you don't. And then you forget about it, or it becomes too late, and people die -- and then you wish: Oh my gosh, I never asked that; I wish I knew. From that aspect, I think these are really valuable. You get a lot of information that you might not take the time to ask for until it's too late.

The Power of Editing

Frank Gregorsky adds audio editing to his interviewing skills to produce indexed and "tracked" family history CDs that (a) preserve the intimate conversational "feel" of themes and events while (b) removing everything that might disorient the listener. Each audiodisc plays for close to 80 minutes and lets you use the track selector or computer mouse to "pick and choose" -- or you can simply let each CD play itself through, one track after another, just like a musical CD. What Frank produces is also an audio product -- except it's 99% voice! The client family controls the copyright, and the audio content can be duplicated wherever and whenever you see fit.

And the Professionalism

Frank has been conducting interviews professionally since 1979. He has "spent time on tape" with Alvin Toffler, Claire Raines, Esther Dyson, Daryl Conner, Dr. Michael Kerr and Michael Rothschild; with noted entrepreneurs Toni Ford, Judy Litteer, Rebecca Matthias and Iris Rubinfield; with Detroit coaching legend Will Robinson; with members of the rising "Millennial" Generation; with U.S. Senators and Congresspersons; with his own parents, stepmom, sister and relatives; and with individuals facing a terminal illness. Frank used his listening skills to profile 50 women entrepreneurs, first for the Joint Economic Committee of Congress, and continuing with The Bionomics Institute. Friends, colleagues and clients are comfortable confiding in Frank Gregorsky.

Frank – I really wanted to talk to you in person and not leave a message, but: You really outdid yourself. The cover’s great, and I particularly love all the descriptions you gave, for each disc, in the table of contents. It’s just absolutely wonderful, and I’m so, so thankful. You did a fabulous job.
